I have been playing the piano since I was very young having achieved Grade 8 when I was 18. I continue to play with bands around the East Midlands and have plenty of experience gigging and writing. I also have an excellent working knowledge of Music technology using industry standard music programs including Sibelius, Logic Pro and Cubase.
I have decided to return to 1-2-1 tuition as I feel this is an opportunity to work with individuals who are passionate about improving in their specific instrument. As an experienced classroom practitioner of over 12 years, I have worked with students from as young as Year 3 (6/7 years old) to adults. In the classroom I have achieved Outstanding / Excellent in my observations and my teaching is considered ‘innovative’ and ‘fun’ and I set ‘high aspirations’ for all individuals in the classroom.
I believe strongly that learning a musical instrument gives you the time to relax yet develop discipline, creativity and an individual sense of self-worth. My mantra when I approach teaching is very much holistic and that it is about the individual and what they want to achieve in their lessons.
Students make the decision to learn what they want, shaping the course of lessons that I teach to them. I am comfortable with preparing for instrumental exams or just learning for fun. I can teach classical and popular styles but I also encourage all students to improvise which in turn may lead to writing their own music.
My teaching style is tailored around the needs of the student but has a clear structure in what needs to be achieved. I will introduce a variety of techniques, effective playing/ practice routines that not only focus on improving your playing but also offers effective time management in your busy life. I also try to incorporate music theory wherever it is relevant in terms of what an individual needs to know to improve their playing.
I am flexible in terms of travelling or teaching at a private piano studio in Leicester as I realise that a student must feel comfortable at their instrument. To book your first lesson, or simply to find out more, simply get in touch by emailing email@example.com.
